MOVIE SCORES THAT MAKE US FEEL EPIC

Simply put, we Edgies are huge music fans – it’s a massive part of what we do!
We’re always searching high and low to find the right music to help take our films to the next level. We love choosing a pop song to add the right vibe (we’ve been lucky enough to use the likes of Coldplay and Friends Electric in recent years) or creating a bespoke composition to give the film a truly unique feel.
We think there’s always the right music to fit the occasion, whether we’re off to record an interview, stepping into the voiceover studio, heading out for a run, smashing out a HIIT session, wrapping up an edit, or filming a stunning sunset.
There are so many others we were thinking of including (an honourable mention to everything John Williams has ever written plus the others who didn’t make the cut), but we’ve tried to keep it simple – here’s a few of our favourite movie scores to suit (almost!) any occasion:

Theme: Shaft (Isaac Hayes)

Best listened to when: Finishing a mammoth edit session
The edit’s wrapped, you’ve sent the file to render, and you’re feeling like an absolute boss – there’s only one thing for it; the cool soulful groove of Isaac Haye’s iconic theme to get you in the zone and strut your funky stuff:

Theme: Chariots of Fire (Vangelis)

Best listened to when: Heading out for a run
Of course, Vangelis is all over synthy, anthemic soundtracks (honourable mentions to Blade Runner and 1492: Conquest of Paradise), but when it comes to getting ready to hit the road, nothing comes close. You’re probably humming it and whipping out the running shoes right now ready to go full training montage (just don’t forget the slow-motion feels):

Theme: Gladiator, ‘Now We Are Free’ (Hans Zimmer)

Best listened to when: Starting a new venture (or leaving the office!)
Hans Zimmer’s another composer synonymous with epic film scores; from Lion King to Inception, he’s pretty much done it all. It’s a tough shout but we think the theme from Gladiator tops the pile in all its awesome Zimmer-ness, and we reckon it’s perfect for when you need that bit of extra motivation to help psyche yourself up to get cracking with a new project:

(Or you could go for the Francesco Totti approach and play ‘Honor Him’ at your retirement shindig / leaving the office at the end of a long day.)

Theme: Sunshine (Adagio in D Minor) [John Murphy]

Best listened to when: Filming a stunning sunset
Sometimes you’re just out there in a beautiful corner of the world capturing some picturesque footage of our nearest star dropping beyond the horizon (no we’re not jealous at all), and you just need some music to help add that extra bit of sparkle to the occasion, right? Well, look no further: the anthemic music from Danny Boyle’s 2007 sci-fi thriller is a glorious tribute to the Sun in all its blazing magnificence, and hits you right in the feels:

 

Theme: Black Panther [Ludwig Göransson / Kendrick Lamar]

Best listened to when: Smashing out a gym session / any occasion!
This is a bit of a cheat because it’s not technically one single theme we’re hyping here, but we at Team Edge absolutely loved Black Panther, and in no small part to the incredible soundtrack created by Messrs Göransson, Lamar, et al. It’s pretty much got it all wherever you are and whatever you’re up to, but we’d recommend it when hitting up the gym and smashing out a HIIT session:

Theme: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Ennio Morricone)

Best listened to when: Walking into a meeting
We think this speaks for itself!

OK, we’re not being entirely serious, but that last one is an iconic piece and it’d certainly help set a tone before you step into the room. Of course, it depends on who your meeting’s with!
